"I mean, you take one of the best teams that we had ever assembled previous year, that we saw in the regular season and in the post-season, and then in the off-season you add a high-powered offensive talent like that and a great basketball IQ like that, that's what stands out", James said.
And stand out is exactly what Durant did. He became the first player since Shaquille O'Neal in 2000 to score at least 38 points without committing a turnover. The Cavs had no answer for his size and unique skill-set which relentlessly put pressure on Cleveland's defense all night long.
Durant made precisely the difference Cleveland feared he might - not only performing at an elite level himself but making it hard for the Cavs to throw multiple players at Stephen Curry, who contributed 28 points and 10 assists.
They got that victory without coach Steve Kerr leading the charge, as they have gotten many of their wins in these playoffs. "So when you're playing against a unsafe team like we are playing in the Warriors, and they have great pieces, just got to stay disciplined, understand that every possession is all out, and we'll be fine".
Durant is the piece that has taken the Warriors' concept of turning defense into offense from a noble idea to a completely unstoppable force.
Durant simply adds a dimension that wasn't there on the Warriors in the previous two Finals against Cleveland - as any MVP-caliber player, joining another MVP (Currry) and two other All-Stars in the prime of their careers might.
Forget all the things that Cleveland did wrong offensively in Game 1, the poor shooting and the 20 turnovers and how the bench basically contributed nothing and how Rihanna got - and merited - more commentary from ABC's Jeff Van Gundy than J.R. Smith and Tristan Thompson did.
"It's not about me", Durant said. "(Thompson) will be able to get more next game".
James admitted after the game that the ball needs to move more than it did in game 1, as the Cavs recorded just 15 assists for the entire game.More news: Venezuela vence a EU y lo deja fuera del Mundial Sub20
- The second, James got no help after he swiped unsuccessfully at the ball.
"We can continue to get better". Part of it is that McGee is high here. The Cavs' starting center registered only four rebounds and zero points in 23 minutes.
The Warriors didn't lose a single game in the first three rounds of the playoffs, becoming the first team since the 2000-01 Lakers to enter the Finals undefeated. It appears this season is no different, except for the addition of one; Derrick Williams. "It's pick your poison".
The fear for Golden State entering Thursday was that its best defensive option on James would be slowed by the knee soreness that sidelined Iguodala for Game 2 of the West finals against San Antonio. It is why, after the Warriors lost two of their first three games in the 2015 National Basketball Association finals to Cleveland, Steve Kerr put Iguodala in the starting lineup. "Golden State wants a finesse game".
Kerr has been bothered by back problems resulting from last year's surgery.
"Coach Kerr has been great", Thompson said. "There are no shortcuts to win a championship".
"We've been here before and know there's a lot of work left to do", Curry said.
