Still, Fils-Aime noted that digital sales for top Switch games - especially Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - have been strong and that Nintendo recognizes how valuable a digital marketplace can be.
While that does little to answer the many questions that remain regarding why the Switch didn't simply launch with Virtual Console, Fils-Aime's reassurances are more comforting when you realize that Nintendo has previously stated that they do not intend for the Switch Online game service to replace Virtual Console.
The extremely popular car-football title Rocket League will get an additional fan base later this year when it releases on the Nintendo Switch. Going forward, the Switch needs not just players, but games, though. If Sony decides to let it happen they could get it up and running today itself, as a matter of fact, Psyonix stated: "it would be up and running in less than an hour all over the world".
Developer Psyonix has confirmed that the Switch version will have a cross-play feature included which enables players to compete against PC and Xbox One players.
