Diana 'The White Mamba' Taurasi Tributes WNBA Scoring Record To Teammates

She finished the contest with 19 points to bring her career total to 7,494.

About the only thing missing from Diana Taurasi's record-setting day was a victory.

With her parents watching, Taurasi passed Tina Thompson on Sunday in the Phoenix Mercurys 90-59 loss to the Sparks in Los Angeles.

"It's pretty special when you pass Tina in anything, she's been such an awesome player for the WNBA and just for basketball in general, she's such an icon", Taurasi told Yahoo Sports.

When Taurasi shot the record-scoring point with 45 seconds left in the first half, the game screeched to a stop. “It worked in our favor we could see a historical night.”.

"To be that great for so many years is a testament to her work ethic and commitment to the game", Bryant told ESPN. “Her intellect and sacrifice. "She's just a phenomenal athlete".

“I am excited that it is Diana and it is my absolute pleasure to pass the torch on to her, ” Thompson said. "She and I have shared so many wonderful moments throughout our basketball careers, whether it was gold medals, championships or All-Star games". She has done awesome things and I am so grateful that Ive been able to share many of those with her. It only took the Mercury star 13 seasons to become the league's top scorer. It was their highest-scoring quarter of the season and two points shy of the WNBA record for most points in a quarter.

Ogwumike led the Sparks (8-3) with 18 points and had seven rebounds, and Candace Parker added 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

She turned 35 this month and doesnt seem to be slowing down. She recently signed an extension through 2020.
