The actor, who had been under the cloud of suspect immediately after the crime reported against the actress, was arrested by the police last evening after a marathon interrogation at a secret place. Dileep who was called for questioning by the Kerala police on Monday was grilled for hours before he was formally arrested. It is also said that Dileep is likely to be produced before the magistrate court on Tuesday.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's office also confirmed the news of the arrest.
The popular and National Award winning film editor Beena Paul has expressed her shock on this incident about the Dileep's arrest in the case of alleged sexual assault to Malayalam actress.
The remand report says that the woman actor was responsible for the souring relationship and eventual separation between Dileep and his former wife Manju Warrier, which led Dileep to conspire against the actor out of vengeance.
The court charged Dileep, who was booed and heckled by a large crowd assembled outside the courtroom, with criminal conspiracy and later him sent to Aluva sub-jail.
The provocation is said to have been over "personal and business deals" between Dileep and the actress, which must have gone sour. And soon after the actor filed a police complaint, Pulsar Suni was arrested.
Sources said Dileep was with his manager Appunni when Pulsar Suni called him from jail. AMMA did not take any action till date since the investigation was going on, Mammootty said.
Ramkumar alleged that the actor was arrested after being "framed" in the case.
The actress was allegedly abducted on February 17 this year when she was travelling by road to Kochi.
The 48-year-old actor, who began his career as a mimicry artist with a group of friends, also worked as an assistant director to well-known Director Kamal and later he donned small yet significant roles in several Malayalam movies. Taking the probe closer to Dileep, a letter purportedly written by Suni to Dileep, demanding money, reached TV channels.
