The designers who worked on the new A8 have ensured it is much better than the outgoing model. Two eight-cylinder versions - a 4.0 TDI with 435 hp and a 4.0 TFSI with 460 hp- will follow slightly later.
The teased relaxation seat is exclusive to the long-wheelbase A8 L, but frankly we're more interested in those fancy semi-autonomous features.
In conjunction with the air suspension, which has been fine-tuned for the A8, the innovative suspension concept delivers an entirely new driving experience in this way.
The Audi A8 and A8 L are stylistically designed with a wide, single framed radiator grille and fluid, muscular body symbolizing sporty elegance, sophistication and progressive status. Audi hopes that the car's high level of innovation will beat Mercedes at its own game and establish the brand among the frontrunners in autonomous driving technology.
German carmaker Audi claims the new Audi A8's artificial intelligence (AI) traffic jam pilot takes charge of driving in slow-moving traffic at up to 60 km/h on freeways and highways where a physical barrier separates the two carriageways. Using OLED technology similar to that of a mobile phone screen, the rear light strip displays an animated sequence when you lock or unlock the auto.
Parking pilot and garage pilot will also be introduced from 2018 into production models allowing drivers to start manoeuvres remotely from the myAudi app.
The interior of the all-new A8 is created to mimic a luxurious lounge.
Audi unit debuted its new Audi A8 luxury sedan on Tuesday, complete with level 3 autonomous driving, active electronic suspension, a mild hybrid engine and new infotainment system.
A final piece of autonomous technology is how the A8's suspension quickly rises if it predicts a crash, helping to protect the occupants.
"This will completely change our mobility", Audi sales boss Dietmar Voggenreiter said at the A8's unveiling. The new system manages starting, accelerating, braking and steering functions.
Under the hood, the 2017 Audi A8 is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine capable of rendering about 282 horsepower and an option V8 diesel engine which produces an impressive 429 horsepower. Audi is the first manufacturer using a laser scanner along with radar systems and other sensors to understand its surroundings. The electric motor will be supplied juice from a lithium-ion battery pack that is expected to offer an all-electric range of around 50 km. The driver can monitor the parking manoeuvre through a live display on the smartphone that showcases a 360-degree feed of the auto.
Underpinning the auto is a pair of tech-packed features, including a new active suspension and all-wheel steering. The same engine is already used by Audi's Volkswagen Group sister company Porsche in the latest Panamera Turbo. A range-topping 585bhp 6.0-litre W12 petrol engine is also on the cards.
