With over majority of the smartphone market share taken over by Android and Apple iOS devices, Microsoft has also given up its own Lumia-branded devices, that was acquired from Nokia.

Released in April 2014, Windows Phone 8.1 was the most recent public update for the struggling OS and in 2015, Microsoft introduced Windows 10 Mobile to replace it. This is essentially a version of its desktop Windows 10 software specifically designed for use on smartphones and tablets.

Of course, Microsoft has retreated and is looking to return with a device suitable for the next generation of mobile.

Heralding a reduction in fortunes, Window's Phones dipped to less than 1% in the US at the turn of 2017, according to Kantar.

However, it is indicative of Windows Phone's failure to ever truly catch on, since it first launched in 2010.

Microsoft released patches for 54 vulnerabilities last night, 26 of which affect bugs in Windows. The whole new features namely enhanced Edge browser experience, new Notifications feature, resolving DPI issues and many others will surely resolve the problems which are currently faced by the Microsoft Windows users.

Executive editor at Thurott.com, Brad Sams, recently revealed that he had information regarding the company's plans of unveiling a brand new Windows 10-powered handset soon.

11 July 2017, this date marks the day that Microsoft is officially killing support for Windows Phone. Previously, the objects have to be moved off the canvas for this purpose. "Especially the mid-budget Lumia phones, all those phones will now no longer receive any support", added Baxi.

The only way previous supported devices would be able to continue receiving "unofficial" support for the handsets no longer being supported would be to enroll them in the Windows Insider Release Preview Ring and they would get the monthly Cumulative Updates in that channel. And that's what we want to do.
