President Trump defended his son Donald Trump Jr. again for the controversial meeting he held with a Russian attorney during the campaign season past year, calling him a "great young man" and saying that "most people would have taken that meeting".
"President Macron was highly skilled at putting President Trump at ease and avoiding any land mines that would have derailed the show of unity", Boyer said.

Trump's brief visit to Paris - he arrived Thursday morning - is meant to celebrate the French day of national pride and commemorate the 100th anniversary of America's entry into World War I.
The White House originally said Trump's comments would be off the record, but reversed itself on Thursday.
The two leaders also announced the Alliance for the Sahel for security and development in countries that are a source of immigration to Europe and a nesting ground for terror groups like al-Qaida. While Macron and other audience members smiled during snippets of hits such as "Get Lucky", Trump seemed less impressed.
Macron, thanks to decisive presidential and parliamentary election wins, is the most secure French president in years.
In bringing Trump to Paris, Macron has stolen a march on Britain's embattled Prime Minister Theresa May. The Trumps and the Macrons visited Les Invalides, the site of Napoleon's tomb and a military museum.
Trump's pressure comes as a new health care plan released by Republican leaders faces opposition in the Senate. At around 30 seconds, it was a new and prolonged take on their famous knuckle-whitening handshake of late May in Brussels.
As they were saying their good-byes, Trump turned to Brigitte Macron and gestured toward her body.
After French President Emmanuel Macron called for a final question from an "American journalist", President Trump instead called on a man who identified himself as a journalist from "Phoenix TV of China".
Earlier in June, Mr. Trump interrupted an Oval Office phone call with the prime minister of Ireland, Leo Varadkar, to comment on the physical appearance of Caitriona Perry, a Washington correspondent for Ireland's national broadcaster.
Trump said that he is exploring the possibilities of developing US cooperation with other member states of the Paris agreements. "The State Department issues visas, and the Department of Homeland Security oversees entry to the United States at airports", the statement said.
Mr Macron, in a speech near the end of the event, thanked the U.S. for intervening in the First World War. In France, Macron has been criticized for inviting Trump to visit.
Macron, who used a translator at points during the conference, said France and Russian Federation "have a lot of discrepancies" but that it's a necessity to work together to share information "and to try to build solutions".
Talks between Macron and Trump will focus on climate change, the war against terrorism, economics, and other important issues.
In the past, Trump has suggested France's liberal migration policies have made Paris a risky place. As the French president told reporters through an interpreter, he and his wife are hosting the Trumps for an intimate dinner tonight.
President Trump also said that the lawyer that his son met with was "not a government lawyer", and he criticized the press for making a big deal out of what his son did.
