Trump says John Kelly to be new WH chief of staff

White House is at war with transparency, not with leaks

Scaramucci Spouts Off About Leaks

Former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus said he was "doing great" and dispelled rumors that he resigned under pressure after an extraordinary week in the Oval Office. He's a great great American. John has also done a spectacular job at Homeland Security.

Unfortunately, but perhaps characteristically for the Trump administration, Kelly has responded to Washington by attacking it.

Priebus resigned privately Thursday, CNN has learned.

US President Donald Trump arrives aboard Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, US, July 28, 2017. Kelly also has a bombastic style that is exactly what you would expect of a four-star Marine general raised in a Boston-Irish family. In 42 years of active service as a U.S. Marine, Kelly worked his way up from enlisted grunt to four-star general, serving in both Iraq wars and a number of other deployments. Respected by everybody - a great, great American.

"I had a very good relationship with Reince Priebus".

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, D-Wisc., is a friend of Priebus' and released a statement following Trump's announcement. Both Sessions, who has beensavaged on Twitter by Trump for his recusal from the Justice Department's Russian Federation probe, and Bannon, who was insulted by Scaramucci, are portrayed as not loyal enough to the president by Trump himself and by the new key player in the White House, Scaramucci.

As chairman of the Republican National Committee during the 2016 presidential campaign, Priebus' team supplanted a thin Trump campaign with money and staff to help Trump win the presidency. In a highly unusual arrangement, Trump said at the outset that Priebus and chief strategist Steve Bannon would serve as "equal partners" in implementing his agenda.

Scaramucci was the latest top aide to be granted a direct line to Trump, and it became increasingly unclear who actually reported to Priebus. After removing the tweet, Scaramucci denied that it was a threat to Priebus, writing that the deleted tweet was "was public notice to leakers that all Sr Adm officials are helping to end illegal leaks".

He obliquely accused Priebus of being the source of White House leaks that have been a source of constant irritation to the president. He leveled those charges on CNN moments after speaking with Trump. But the relationship began to unravel as Trump became embroiled in the Russian Federation scandal and began to question the communication strategy, led by Priebus loyalist Spicer.

The reshuffle puts Mr Priebus out of his misery and confirms Mr Trump's fondness for surrounding himself with tough-as-nails generals, who already fill several top jobs in his government.

The two men had travelled together earlier in the day to an appearance in Brentwood, New York.

Yet Priebus's dismissal capped a tumultuous six months marked by staff turmoil and political reversals that Trump often blamed on his chief of staff.
