John Rogers, Keene's acting health director, said crews with Municipal Pest Management Services Inc. started the treatment with a natural bacterial larvacide on Wednesday.

The treatment is targeting catch basins in the city's storm drains: areas in the system created to catch sediment. However, Tolman-Hill said it's believed they did not contract it within the county.

The Dallas County Health Department reports that a Richardson resident living in the 75080 zip code has tested positive for West Nile.

The best way to prevent West Nile virus disease, and a variety of other mosquito-borne diseases, is to avoid mosquito bites.

The Adams County West Nile Program will conduct spraying operations in Mount Pleasant and Bonneauville on Monday, according to an announcement released Friday.

Researchers are picking through mosquitoes and using traps to learn more.

West Nile virus is spread from the bite of an infected mosquito.

The bird, a Stellar's Jay, was found on July 31.

This year, 29 OH counties have reported West Nile Virus activity in mosquitoes collected as part of statewide surveillance. About 10 percent of people who develop neurologic infection due to West Nile virus will die, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

For Zika virus transmission to occur, the Aedes albopictus mosquito would need to feed on an infected person then feed upon another susceptible person.

This is the first reported equine case of West Nile in Kansas in 2017.

"The virus has jumped out beyond that and is now infecting other hosts such as horses, and potentially even humans", Doud said.

Joshi and co-investigator Himanshu Garg, Ph.D., were recently awarded a two-year, $420,000 grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

The FDA stated that the additional measure would help diagnostic developers to "assess whether their tests can contribute to distinguishing recent Zika virus infection from infection with West Nile or dengue viruses".

So far across all of California in 2017, there have been 22 cases of people infected by the virus as of August 11, according to the Long Beach Health Department. Forty-nine mosquito samples tested positive for WNV last week alone.

"We aren't into flu season yet, so if you have flu-like symptoms, you may want to go to your doctor to be tested", she said.
