Charity Navigator and the Better Business Bureau have provided the following list of credible organizations and charities seeking donations in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. It has the staff, trucks, and logistics to get help where it is needed quickly.

"It's heartbreaking to see people lose their lives, homes, and businesses to the ongoing flooding in Texas", Colleen Tressler Federal Trade Commission wrote in an alert to consumers on Monday. Disaster spells opportunity for scammers. "We operate a hotline, our hotline has been operating since before the hurricane reached landfall", Roth explained, saying the organization has been receiving phone calls from individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities requesting help with evacuation or resources.

If you are giving to them make sure you know them personally. Plus, it's easy to just type in the name of a charity to see if they are legitimate.

These emails often include a link that will take the unsuspecting donor to the scammers' site, where they ask for a donation either through credit cards or direct access to your bank account.

-Never send cash: you can not be sure the organization will receive your donation, and you will not have a record for tax purposes. Go directly to the website, instead of linking through.

If you suspect an email scam, you can report this to the IRS by visiting their website, and Report Phishing.

Cash donations allow charities to buy relief products local or regionally, which reduces shipping costs and allows relief organizers more flexibility than donated goods. Other verified sources for charitable giving for the relief effort can be found here, and people can visit give.org to review the Better Business Bureau Charity Report to verify that a charity meets bureau standards for accountability.

In all, Charitywatch lists 12 nationally established organizations involved in the Harvey relief that it deems reliable, including the American Red Cross. "They are running out of food in those areas right now".

Gas prices in Virginia could jump as much as 15 to 25 cents per gallon - or more - within 10 days as the result of Hurricane Harvey's impact in Texas, AAA Mid-Atlantic officials are warning.

Amazon and Whole Foods are matching up to US$1mil (RM4.27mil) in donations made through the e-commerce site to the American Red Cross.
