One less place with phones. The phone has no cracks on the screen or body, powers on and makes calls, and is even comes with a camo phone case.
Samsung aims to navigate safely through this year and begin sales of the bendable devices next year, when Chinese rivals are expected to make further gains. And sometimes your old phone is just kaput. A bigger show gives you more space to peruse, pack in applications, watch recordings and play games. Sure, the screens have become bigger, the edges rounder, the metals pinker. The iPhone X is 26 grammes heavier; around 20 percent. But the days seem to be gone when Apple single-handedly ruled the smartphone market and was at the cutting-edge of innovation.
For many technology companies, an all-screen design has been in the works for years.
Samsung controls 90% of the world's OLED smartphone panels and even serves as the exclusive supplier for Apple's iPhone X. The South Korean conglomerate plans to use in-house OLED production to jump ahead with the foldable device and maintain its lead in the smartphone market.
Until recently, though, that was hard to accomplish.
No other smartphone maker necessarily ticks all the boxes that Apple does with the iPhone X, but the X isn't the first to anything its offering (with the exception maybe of Face ID, though its superiority to Touch ID remains questionable at best). Tango is an augmented reality platform created by Google which enables devices to be aware of their relative position with their surroundings.
"Our 3D sensing solution will be a game changing technology for smartphones, where we will enable the Android ecosystem to provide the next generation of mobile user experience", said Jordan Wu, President and Chief Executive Officer of Himax Technologies. Want an all-screen phone? Hands aren't getting bigger, and neither are pockets. That's a USP Apple has retained since the first iPhone was launched a decade back. First, phones still have bezels. The iPhone X measures 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm (5.65 x 2.79 x 0.30 in), while the dimensions of the iPhone 8 are 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm (5.45 x 2.65 x 0.29 in). And it's much larger than the iPhone X. Apple's new "facial recognition" security system is one of the most ridiculous ideas the company has had. "It's perfectly feasible to expect to get a full 360 degree screen", Rolston says. Coming to the pricing, the Samsung Galaxy S8 has been priced at Rs. 57,900. It retains a small top and bottom bezel, but its display curves at the sides. This in itself is indicative that it has featured in a lot many Samsung devices much before Apple even struck a deal for OLED panels. Interestingly, the same hardware that supports FaceID also powers animoji as well.
