Huawei Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro With FullView Displays Launched: Price, Specifications

Huawei Mate 10 Pro launch - Release date, UK price and specs REVEALED

Huawei Mate 10 review: Hands on with Huawei's Note 8 challenger

Even as Apple didn't deem the fingerprint scanner worthy of including in the iPhone X, both the Huawei's smartphones come with a fingerprint scanners on the back.

There is no word on the pricing and availability of these new devices, but rest assured that the Mate 10 series is expected to hit the UAE stores later this month. The Pro version has a skew with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, though it's not clear if that model will be avaialable in South Africa.

In fact, its big phone range known as the "Mate" will see one of these screens very shortly, as the Mate 10 emerges in two varieties, offering either a standard 16:9 5.9 inch display, or alternatively a super tall 18:9 6 inch screen that takes up most of the handset's front.

Available in blue, grey, gold and brown, the Mate 10 Pro has a 6 inch, 18x9 ratio, full view display that supports the latest HDR10 content.

Little is known about the Huawei Mate 10 Lite but some are suggesting that it could just be a rebranded model of the Huawei Maimang.

Both the new Mate smartphones are powered by HiSilicon's new Kirin 970 octa-core 64-bit processor, promising big gains in performance when compared to the Kirin 960 from past year. Neither of those are the most interesting bit about the Kirin 970, though. As Huawei revealed during its IFA press conference, the Kirin 970 features a Neural Processing Unit that handles object recognition. The Mate 10 will arrive in a black colour with 64GB of onboard storage and 4GB of RAM and have a SRP of $899. We had a brief play with the Mate 10 Pro and indeed found that it was capable of recognising a ballet dancer, green foliage and a very dark neon sign, each time adjusting the camera's shooting mode and settings to correctly capture the subject. Huawei also continues its partnership with Leica, offering a dual-lens camera with both lenses featuring an aperture of f/1.6.

That AI processing affects photo taking too.

The 4-in-1 hybrid focus is driven by Huawei's Advanced Dual Image Signal Processor, with a combination of laser, depth, contrast and phase detection focus to suit any conditions and deliver fast, sharp results.

"As we enter the age of intelligence, AI is no longer a virtual concept but something that intertwines with our daily life", Huawei chief executive Richard Yu said. For selfies, there is an 8MP snapper on the front. Artificial intelligence makes Real-Time Scene and Object Recognition functionality possible, automatically choosing the ideal camera settings for any environment or focal point. It will have a 4000mAh battery and a dual-camera, combining 12megapixels and 20megapixels f/1.6 Leica sensors.

Design and headphone jack aside, there isn't much to separate these phones when you delve beneath the surface.

Huawei's large smartphones are now also water resistant with an IP rating of 67.

Huawei's finally shown its hand. For connectivity, it has 4.5G LTE, and world's first 4G dual VoLTE.

Along with Mate 10, Huawei also announced Mate 10 Pro. Available in two flavors, the Mate 10 has a 5.9-inch LCD screen with a home button underneath, and 64 GB of storage.

Huawei has yet to share an official release date for the Middle East, but we hope to hear more about the Mate 10 Pro launch date in the future and will update here when we officially know more.
