Democrats swept all three of Virginia's statewide races and nearly wiped out Republicans' overwhelming majority in the Virginia House of Delegates on Tuesday. (Per Gallup, more than 9-in-10 conservative Republicans approve of Trump.) Since Republican Party primaries see an over-representation of conservatives, that meant that Republicans eager to win reelection to Congress were less likely to turn on the president.

This election season, with all 100 seats up for grabs, saw Democrats make their most energetic push in years to gain ground against Republicans.

The results are the most concrete sign so far of a building Democratic resurgence in the Trump era.

And Evans backers said Northam's success in districts carried by Trump, coupled by the Democratic wins in Georgia GOP strongholds, shows there's an opening for Democrats who aim for disaffected Republican voters.

The website goes on to say that she loves puzzles, naps, psychological thrillers and, much in line with her father's platform, going green.

Smaller races throughout the country saw a wave of politicians making historic firsts for their states and in some cases the entire country.

Polls narrowed as Gillespie tried to find a winning strategy that would be a blueprint for future Republicans. There wasn't any one particular issue that drove them to the polls but said they shared Gillespie's positions on gun rights and not removing Confederate statues. U.S. Senator Cory Booker, a New Jersey Democrat, told Murphy supporters that Virginia and New Jersey had set the tone for 2018. But the buck stops with Trump. Murphy, who earned a fortune at Goldman Sachs before serving as Barack Obama's ambassador to Germany, delivered his address in the same spot as Christie in his 2013 re-electionafter Christie won big over his Democratic rival.

Chris Hurst, a former television anchor for WDBJ7 in Roanoke, left the station to campaign for delegate as a Democrat after his girlfriend, Alison Parker, and her cameraman were gunned down during a live broadcast in 2015. Shlost by 12 points.

But it also does something very dangerous for Trump right now.

On its home page, Breitbart also championed Trump's argument that Gillespie should have embraced him more robustly. Democrats hold the governor's mansion and Hillary Clinton won by 5 points last year. The electors were meant to be a deliberative body of intelligent, well-informed men who would be immune to corruption.

With hindsight we can say that this was a race between two uninspiring candidates who needed, somehow, to inspire support.
