European Paper Talk: Barcelona reach agreement to sign Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has responded to rumours that Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann is set to leave the club.

Let's not forget, however, that his friends and team-mates at Barcelona had been trying to convince him to stay for long before that, with no success. But Arsene Wenger's French connection and Griezmann's relationship with Arsenal players raises the possibility of a move to London.

Luis Suarez isn't having the greatest start to his campaign, but he has looked sharp in training for Barcelona and with a point to prove, this could be the game he finally sparks into life. With Arsenal's new signing Alexandre Lacazette saying he'll bring his best mate [Griezmann] to the club, Arsenal fans are hopeful of Landing the superstar. Given Real's sloppy football of late, the Atletico midfielders should be successful. "Emre Can and Leon Goretzka are two players with expiring contracts and I don't hide the fact that we are following them both, like many other teams".

And that has led to interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the midfielder.

Atletico, who in 2016 had debts of 483 million euros, are under renewed financial pressure after relocating from the Vicente Calderon to their new arena in September, a move Cerezo has said cost the club 310 million euros. Ultimately, it probably won't be enough to prevent another low-scoring contest between two sides who seemingly know too much about each other's tactics.

And there's plenty more this morning including Lionel Messi (not the first time he's been linked!), Jack Wilshere and interesting features on John Stones and Robinho.

However Cerezo has poured cold water on any talk of Griezmann leaving the Wanda Metropolitano, insisting the Frenchman wants to remain an Atletico player.

And with its title chances hanging by a thread in Europe, only a home victory on Saturday may keep Atletico in contention for a significant trophy this season. The latest among these proposed renewals would have put Ozil among the highest earning individuals in the Premier League.

Moving on, the Daily Mail's man in Brazil has sent back a fascinating interview with former City favourite Robinho.

He has failed to score in the last 596 minutes despite taking 20 shots at goal.
