United fans will have been more encouraged by Mourinho's suggestion that he is eager to continue the club's tradition of giving homegrown players a chance, as he talked up the talents of emerging star Scott McTominay.

Don Balon, as quoted by Italian website Calcio Mercato, is reporting that the Red Devils boss wants to sign an attacking midfielder in January or next summer.

According to the Italian publication, Arsenal are keen on signing Man United midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

I don't think it's possible for a player with a problem to play in a friendly.

It is understood Fellaini gave up £4m in bonuses in order to ensure the transfer went through. But none of them are important.

Manchester United fear Marouane Fellaini could leave the club for free next summer with contract talks remaining at an impasse.

His fortunes at United have fluctuated.

The defender, however, didn't come off until the 24th minute; collapsing to the floor with an uncomfortable grimace on his face just moments after clearing off the line from Leroy Sane.

While the fixture congestion in the winter months is one cause for concern, Mourinho believes that the higher level of competition in England adds even more stress to the squads who are trying to compete on all fronts. But I also know that he really likes me as a person, so there's no issue about the discipline being for the wrong reasons.

Fellaini has scored four goals in eight appearances in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League this term, according to WhoScored.com, and he could become a useful asset for the north London giants.

Though fortunes on the pitch have improved dramatically on the pitch for Valencia this term, following two consecutive 12th placed finishes, they are still not in a healthy position financially.
