Shoppers storm stores in search of Black Friday deals

Just like Santa, Rachel Adkins, of Lincoln County, made a list and checked it twice before making her early-morning journey to the Huntington Mall to do her Black Friday shopping.

Nicole Daley was sitting in a vehicle about 7:15 a.m. outside Palmer Park Mall, with a carful of passengers including her daughter, Makayla.

"They're the best sales of the year".

Walmart, meanwhile, says it has tripled the assortment and deals it had previous year.

"It's tradition, my sister and I have come out for the past 13 years", another said. The manager at Kohl's says they were as busy at noon Friday, as they were Thanksgiving night at 6 p.m.

Local shoppers wait hours in line outside in hopes of scoring bargains on Black Friday, one of the biggest shopping days of the year.

In it's annual holiday shopping survey, the retail federation data shows an estimated 115 million people were expected to be out shopping on Black Friday.

"We're able to comparison shop online earlier to figure out the best deals on electronics, such as headphones and video games, and that dictates where we buy and how much we spend", Johnson said. They also got to see Higbee perform at Cabela's. "It's a good time to buy gifts".

"I have been waiting for this day since the beginning of the month", she said. Her mother said they don't have a mall to compare to Bradley Square where they live, in Madisonville, Ky. All three were dressed in elf-like gear for the occasion.

Lines were long nearly everywhere, but especially at Boscov's in Downtown Binghamton and J.C. Penney at the Oakdale Mall.

Then came the genuine article, the arrival of Black Friday. "You also get five off thirty or ten off sixty", he says.

"It's not so hectic anymore, so that's good", said Subler, of Orlando.

"It gets me in the Christmas spirit and I like to pick out stuff and put my hands on it and see what there is for deals", said Mello of Lyndonville. But the Thanksgiving weekend, when stores go all-out to attract shoppers, can be an indication of how they'll do through the season.
