Strong cold front arrives later today with storms — FIRST ALERT FORECAST

Rain is likely to accompany the warmer weather. That means any standing water, especially on untreated roads, will be able to freeze and lead to icy areas tomorrow morning.

SATURDAY: Snow showers will linger into Saturday, with much colder temperatures returning.

Temperatures are already in the low 50s in some spots, giving us a preview of what's ahead for today. Highs well above normal topping out in the lower 50s!

Everyone sees around 1"-1.5" of rain, with locally higher totals possible. Less than a half-inch of snow is forecast.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Cloudy skies and chilly temperatures continue, with a low temperature of 48 degrees.

The main line of thunderstorms associated with the arrival of the cold front will occur by mid to late-afternoon with a squall line of thunderstorms developing as the front moves through Southwest Louisiana between 3 and 8 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 56. As high pressure slides off the coast, we will have a brisk south wind.

On Wednesday, widespread freezing rain warnings were issued for southern Quebec, as a storm passed far to the north and swept a warm front across the region.

It's a little early to talk specifics, but low placement and how fast temperatures cool off will ultimately play into our snow chances.

Winds will be from the southwest at 30-50 km/h this morning and the temperature will rise to 5 C. Expect road conditions to deteriorate throughout the day, with roads eventually becoming snow covered in the afternoon. Low around 17. Blustery. We should be able to squeeze in one more mostly dry day, albeit a mostly cloudy one. There's a slight chance rain could end as a mix/snow Saturday evening.

Drivers take note: Transport Quebec is reporting some minor crashes as drivers lost control on Highways 20, 40, 13 and more.
