Misra, who took over as chief justice in August 2017, has yet to comment on the allegations. No observation was made by any of the seven judges with regard to the MoP. The high court at Hyderabad still does not have a full-time Chief Justice. The thing was done, but in a way, that it raises doubt on the integrity of the institution.

The court also ordered the release of the activist. The petition argued that Chief Justice Misra should recuse himself from hearing the petition because there was a conflict of interest.

The chief justice was known to assign "politically sensitive cases, which would have far-reaching impact on the republic, to hand-picked judges in order to achieve a particular outcome", Bhushan alleged. Chelameswar said they were not doing this with pleasure and were not "running politics". He also headed the bench that referred the matter on Aadhaar's privacy concerns to a larger Constitution bench. The press conference at his house on Friday is perhaps his most brazen expression of opinion so far. The court will hear the matter on Friday. The next trial judge acquitted Amit Shah and others in the fake encounter case on December 30, 2014. Nikam said, "Today's press conference would cause a bad precedent".
