Human trafficking is an estimated $150 billion industry worldwide, with commercial sex generating two-thirds of the profit. Or once they return home, they have a drastic change in behavior. They may have few or no personal possessions, no money or personal identification.

As a result of Chastain and his detectives, Dyer said, officers now understand that the women being trafficking in Fresno are victims, not criminals. This gives them a wider customer base and greater protection. Undercover law enforcement staff members go to motels and do checks and build relationships.
What can ordinary citizens do to help stop modern day slavery in our midst? "If you have one specific model of what human trafficking looks like in your head, you can overlook the way that plays out in people's lives". Do you think you would notice if the workers in these businesses have freedom of movement? "They don't seem to be able to leave the place they are working".
"When you look at the state, interstates around the country, you look at the trucking plazas numerous trafficking victims are pimped out at these locations and it is the truckers that are on the front lines that are going to be able to see this".

Also this month and into early February, near the feast of St. Josephine Bakhita, patron saint of human trafficking, the series also will feature "Flora", "Mr. J" and "Mr. P". However compared to female children it was less common for male children to be of the younger age. Authorities say they'll distribute a webinar to more than 2-thousand hotels later this month. Often the victims are foreign immigrants, both legal and illegal, lured with promises of higher-paying jobs that don't exist and sometimes held captive physically or through threats.
Community members can help raise awareness; they can spot victims and get them help. Labor trafficking has been found in diverse labor settings such as, domestic work, small businesses, large farms and factories.
Hogan also proposed the creation of a new victim services unit located in the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention that would centralize data collection across Maryland's agencies to focus on restitution for victims by making information more accessible.

Trucking Moves America Forward has launched an online awareness and educational campaign to highlight the trucking industry's unique position to help stop human trafficking.
North Carolina is thought to have one of the top rates of human trafficking in the nation, said Libby Magee Coles, chairwoman of the state Human Trafficking Commission.
