It was a moment of sweet vindication for the hosts after the Watford captain questioned the courage of the Gunners last October following the Hornets' win over them at Vicarage Road.

On Cech's 200th clean sheet and penalty save...

Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira has said the criticism being levelled at Arsene Wenger is "hard to accept", but conceded he would like to manage the club one day.

"It highlights what Petr Cech has done, 200 clean sheets in his career, that's remarkable". In one week he went from hell to heaven, and that's how life can be.

"I believe in two weeks, his situation shows how football is. You don't stay at the top for so long without that".

Shkrodan Mustafi's strong header from a Mesut Ozil free-kick put the Gunners in front on eight minutes.

The visitors had the better of the early exchanges of the second-half, only to fall further behind as Mkhitaryan slid in Aubameyang, who rounded Karnezis to slot home.

Arsenal added two more: Aubameyang was played in by Henrikh Mkhitaryan and he rounded Karnezis to score, before the pair switched roles and combined for the Armenian to tuck in the third.

The Germany midfielder became the fastest man to reach that milestone - in 141 games - when Mustafi headed his precise free kick back across goal in the eighth minute.

The north London side can still qualify for Europe's premier club competition if Arsenal manage to win the Europa League just as Manchester United managed to do under Jose Mourinho last term.

"We had a very good first half", said Wenger. After a hard Thursday night game, on Sunday morning we still had the spirit to stick together.

"It was a convincing win".

"It was a bit frustrating but we have eight games and we have to make sure we win majority".

"Maybe it doesn't come across as being loud on the pitch - and you don't see it as much - but we do speak when things aren't going as well as planned". We had a nightmare week.
