The contract that he negotiated himself, includes an extra $1 million if he makes the next Pro Bowl and $2 million if he's named to the Associated Press All-Pro team. After a physical by the 49ers medical staff, he met with general manager John Lynch and chief contract negotiator Paraag Marathe for about five hours.

One day after he was released, Sherman signed a three-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers. Good news for him and for San Francisco; bad news for agents. Sherman said Schneider told him, "Incentives [are] a little rich for me". Before the craziness of free agency gets under way and reshapes the landscape of the National Football League, I wanted to give the whole seven-round mock draft one more go-around. I love that I get to play in that stadium again - obviously, I'll be wearing different colors - trying my best to ruin their day perhaps.

Fans themselves took to Twitter, trying to come to grips with the news.

ESPN reported that after Sherman was released, he was contacted by Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Green Bay Packers and 49ers.

NOTES: The 49ers also signed P Jeff Locke to a one-year deal.

Sherman was acting as his own agent, it's believed.

Sherman told The MMQB that the contract contains guarantees that roll over to the following year if he makes the Pro Bowl.

"I do think this will up the rivalry with the team and ultimately I'll like that", Salk said. We worked really hard. Sherman tweeted Saturday night. Reports also noted that Sherman spent the past week saying goodbye to his teammates and is expected not to return to Seattle this season.

The soon-to-be 30-year-old expects to be ready by the start of training camp.

And Sherman agreed that opportunity had played a part in his choice, as he reflected on the negative reaction of some fans of his former team.

Along the way, Sherman was a thorn in the 49ers side with great plays and pointed comments.

Sherman acknowledged his feelings after seeing the reaction from Seahawks fans to his signing with one of their rivals. But Sherman has fond memories of secondary brotherhood in Seattle.

While a poor connection with background noise garbled his media conference call, Sherman voiced no frustration.

"The NBC producers grabbed [quarterback Russell Wilson and myself] after the game", Sherman said.

As a four-time All-Pro, Sherman's stats command respect, and he tweeted them out Friday.

Seattle has indicated an interest in bringing him back, but it looks like they will have some competition.

With all of this considered, Sherman said playing his former team at least twice per year factored into his decision.

Sherman became a star with his aggressive coverage and nabbing the league's most interceptions since 2011, albeit only two last season in nine games before his Achilles injury.
