Wild ride ends with Nebraska women in NCAA Tournament

Louisville players voted against playing in the NIT, but the school accepted a bid anyway

Report: Louisville players voted to reject NIT bid; Cards going anyway | Lexington Herald Leader

Other intriguing possible NIT opponents include: Oklahoma and freshman sensation Trae Young, a 23-win Boise State team or Louisville, Notre Dame, Baylor and Oklahoma State, which are projected to land No. 1 seeds.

The NIT has four brackets, each seeded 1-8. In the Big Ten Tournament, the Cornhuskers lost to Maryland in the semifinal round. They are a No. 4 seed and will host an opening round contest. The Hawkeyes and Gophers also made the Tournament. View the full bracket here.

Background: The odds are certainly stacked against the Broncs, who were always going to be underdogs before the NIT selection committee opted to send them across the country for a first-round game on Tuesday night. All four teams had been hopeful of receiving at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament.

Nebraska is a No. 5 seed in the NIT.

Nebraska did a good job of helping its chances at the finish, beating a tournament-level team in MI in the conference tournament quarterfinals. Nebraska most recently made the NCAA Tournament in 2015. They are a No. 7 seed and will open the tournament at second-seeded Marquette. "I don't have anything really good to say to you guys today".

Combined with the NCAA Tournament, the Bulldogs are 18-18 in the postseason. UW would lose its first round game and, in the process, expedite its trek to the NIT. "We are Marquette", said Sobelman.

First-year coach Mike Hopkins' team had bigger things on its mind back in February. "There's a lot of quality teams and great players in the field".

Megan Gustafson leads the nation in scoring (25.6 points per game) by more than a point per game. "(Teams like Nebraska, St. Mary's, and Middle Tennessee) played some great non-conference games, they just didn't win those games".

"If it's just that we're the whatever seed, well. that's their perspective". Padgett took over and had the Cardinals competing early during the conference season, but in mid-February the NCAA officially ruled it would vacate Louisville's 2013 national championship and 123 victories by the program.
