FA Cup How Manchester United zoomed into semi final

In a harsh rant, the Red Devils boss absolutely slammed his own team, save the Serbian who had a goal and an assist against Brighton.

The tournament itself was quickly forgotten about however, as the damaging aftereffects of England's most successful club choosing to withdraw from defending their FA Cup.

The England winger Lingard told the club's website: "Brighton sat back and hit us on the counter-attack a few times, which we were obviously aware of before the match, but we knew we needed to win and we got the win, which was the most important thing".

A disappointing season was compounded on Sunday when he was taken off at half-time of the win over Brighton, with Mourinho revealing his opinion that Shaw does not have the required personality to succeed as a Manchester United player. The 32-year-old, who can play at full-back or across the midfield, joined United in 2011 and has played 29 matches this season. Manchester United do have a proud history in the FA Cup however, having the second most wins after Arsenal with 12, meaning they will take the semis and final very seriously.

"If you win the FA Cup, I can not say it is a successful season but it's a good season".

"Luke Shaw told me this morning that he was not in the condition to play, so we had to build a defensive line", Mourinho told MUTV, before pointedly adding: "Daley Blind has some problems but he put himself available to be on the bench and to try to help the team, so the people that are here are people that I trust for a hard match".

He believes that United possess bright young talent in Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay and even Pogba, who turned 25 last week, but Mourinho now feels that his emerging players need better quality and greater experience around them to take them, and the team, to the level required.

The Special One told them to accept their responsibilities and appreciate their position as United players while away on global duty. "Mourinho expects you to put it in every session and that is an area where Luke will struggle".

"You have four competitions in the season, if you win one, for me, it is not enough".

"Everyone said that Ajax played a attractive game of football and the beauty of football matters and blah, blah, blah".

"I want more personality in the team because many, many times I felt that Matic was an island of personality of desire, of control, surrounded by lack of personality, lack of class, lack of desire", added Mourinho.

"Maybe we fell asleep for their two goals, but other than that I thought we looked solid so we're disappointed".
