'Jose Mourinho is destroying Luke Shaw'

"Manchester United this season I would imagine are going to finish second or third".

"To try to improve our offensive football and be more aggressive I had to change one of them and I decided Luke, because at least Antonio defensively was capable of good positionings", he started. Sadly for United fans, this story will hardly brighten your day.

Shaw and his family are Chelsea FC supporters but the England worldwide moved to Manchester United in a £27m deal from Southampton in 2014 despite interest from the Blues.

The former Aston Villa winger found himself on the periphery of the United first team under Louis van Gaal but, after being converted to a left-back by Jose Mourinho, has featured more regularly this season.

He told Il Bianconero: "Will [Martial] stay in Manchester in the summer?"

"I was constantly on him", he said.

Shaw played one minute in United's next four Premier League games, but voiced a determination to regain favour with Mourinho.

Mourinho has been relatively vocal with his criticism of the left-back and his latest outburst during the FA Cup win over Brighton was the tip of the iceberg.

Shaw hasn't given up hope of making Gareth Southgate's squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation and will consider his situation at the club in the coming months.

The Champions League result has led to major criticism of Mourinho but United remain in the hunt for the FA Cup.

"I want to see Luke do well", said Young.

The Red Devils exited the Champions League after losing to Sevilla 2-1 at Old Trafford last week, having only managed a 0-0 first-leg away draw.

It is clear Mourinho has tried everything in his power to help the player but if the player does not want to help himself then the Portuguese boss has a massive job to do at Manchester United and he can not wait for Shaw to realise what he is throwing away.

"We know as players we go out onto the training pitch and work hard, but when you can, he has a laugh and joke, so he's got both sides to him and that's the best way for a manager to be".

It is an odd tactic if Mourinho is planning on sanctioning Shaw's sale in the summer as it would decrease his market value as it lets potential bidders aware of his weaknesses and his devaluation in importance.

The Spanish goalkeeper is undoubtedly United's top player and they will want to keep him for the long-term despite interest from Real Madrid. "Mourinho may have signed a new contract a few weeks back, but this is a guy who has shown minimal loyalty to any club he has been at and the same goes for United".
