Jack Wilshere NOT included in Gareth Southgate's England World Cup squad

Southgate Closes World Cup Gate On Wilshere

Jack Wilshere to miss out on England's World Cup squad

As expected, Joe Hart and Jack Wilshere were the major casualties as England officially released their squad for the 2018 World Cup next month.

But Burnley's Nick Pope has reportedly usurped him in pecking order after Southgate called Hart on Monday to tell him he would not be in the squad heading to Russian Federation.

BERLIN • Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was named in their preliminary Russia World Cup squad yesterday despite having been out injured since September.

Boss Gareth Southgate will on Wednesday name his 23-man squad for this summer's tournament in Russian Federation.

The 47-year-old has now explained why he was excluded, claiming he did not deserve to be in the 23-man squad on merit.

Midfielders: Eric Dier, Dele Alli (both Tottenham Hotspur), Jesse Lingard (Manchester United), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Fabian Delph (Manchester City), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea).

Although fans at the Emirates have, for the most part, been impressed with Wilshere's return this season, England manager Southgate hasn't seen enough to be convinced.

Hart was left out of West Ham's starting XI by manager David Moyes for their final four games of the season, following their 4-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates in April.

"So what if he's played 19 games this season, it doesn't matter".

But former England striker turned pundit Shearer believes a good performance for the Three Lions in Russian Federation would take Kane to the next level.

Liverpool teenager Trent Alexander-Arnold has continued a dream breakthrough season with a maiden worldwide call-up ahead of next weekend's Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Ashley Young, rejuvenated at Manchester United, joined Danny Rose as left-back options instead of Bertrand, who will feel hard done by considering he played a key role for Southgate.
