Instead, the star of the show that is WWDC 2018 is likely to be the iOS 12.

The most definite thing about WWDC is that new software will be released.

■ The company also plans to preview iOS 12, the new version of the iPhone and iPad operating system, including bug fixes and other improvements. Monday kicks off the 2018 WWDC developers conference, and iOS 12 is expected to be unveiled.

According to Bloomberg Quint's report, the new Apple initiative will be dubbed Digital Health and will offer a series of tools to help iOS users monitor the amount of time they spend on their smart devices. From what we've gathered so far, iOS 12 will primarily focus on under-the-hood improvements created to improve system performance and reliability. At the time, Apple said it was working on "new features and enhancements" to address the concerns, and in March it added a new webpage to educate parents about existing controls. However, with the update, iPhones with NFC will soon be able to unlock doors of hotel rooms, vehicle doors among others. Currently, NFC can only be used for Apple Pay.

Users watching the live-stream on Mac need to make sure that it is running macOS Sierra 10.12 or later. Rumor has it that Apple could also unveil some MacBook Pro update with new Intel processors. The changes are expected to take effect in macOS 10.14.

That prediction obviously didn't come to pass but hopefully with iOS 12 Apple will finally make FaceTime all the more useful.

Unlike Facebook and Google, Apple's business doesn't depend on gathering data to sell ads (though it does collect user data for ads in places like the App Store).

Rumors suggest that Apple is working on some kind of update for the MacBook Air, ranging from Apple releasing a cheaper version of the outdated model now for sale according to former KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Apple is pushing out the "Apple Events" channel so that you can watch the event. Leaked screenshots also suggest the new version of the OS could bring with it a new dark theme that could possibly merge well with the iMac Pro. And with the new entry-level iPad tablet already launched this March, it seems unlikely there will be any new hardware.

Based on the video posted by Chinese video-sharing website Miaopai and redirected to YouTube by Macotakara, the iPhone SE 2 will sport a similar design to the previous iteration, the iPhone SE.

Although major iPhone news is always saved for September, Apple has often announced new hardware at WWDC.
