His appeal will be tough to win...but maybe not impossible.
The 32-year-old is entering his 10th season in the NFL.
The Patriots' wide receiver group had already taken on a new look minus Danny Amendola (free agent, Miami) and Brandin Cooks (traded to Arizona). Now, they'll likely have to make do with a group that will consist of Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett, Malcolm Mitchell, Kenny Britt and Cordarrelle Patterson atop the depth chart. But as a Patriots fan myself, having followed Edelman's career for years, I can honestly say that he's the last person I would expect to be in this kind of trouble.More news: Kevin Durant responds to Stephen Curry not winning Finals MVP
As recently as Tuesday, things were trending positive for Edelman, whose knee recovery was far enough along that he took the field at minicamp in Foxboro. In 2016, he had one of his best seasons, catching 98 passes for 1,106 yards and three touchdowns.
However, all hope is not lost for Edelman as the former Seattle Seahawk cornerback Richard Sherman won his appeal in 2012.
Assuming the suspension is upheld, Yahoo Fantasy analyst Brad Evans believes Edelman will drop from a potential fifth-round pick to a seventh- or eighth-round selection in PPR drafts.
"Your confidence is built through your preparation, your fundamentals", Edelman said. The 32-year old has always been a favorite of Tom Brady when on the field, and figured to be a welcomed "new" addition to the offense after two-straight Super Bowl appearances for New England.
