After meeting with the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump praised the role of China, Pyongyang's main diplomatic and economic backer, in securing the first summit between North Korea and a serving US head of state.
"If you look at history, North Korea is not sure of China, and has a kind of revenge mentality", said Shen Zhihua, a prominent Chinese historian on North Korea.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) called the Singapore summit an "epoch-making meeting much awaited by the whole world", USAT reported. President Donald Trump seems to have made an agreement to cease war games in the Korean Peninsula without consulting USA military leaders or South Korean allies.
"There is no single change in the suspension of the South-U.S. joint military exercise compared to the past", Nam said.
Trump says on Twitter after returning from his Singapore summit that "we save a fortune by not doing war games, as long as we are negotiating in good faith". The North has traditionally railed against the joint exercises and charged that they are practice for an invasion.
"North Korea has committed to a complete denuclearisation".
The ICBM has been a grave concern for the US, as the North was seen using the missile capability to keep American forces at bay and undercut the credibility of the U.S.' security commitment to its Asian allies.
At the summit, Trump emphasized what North Korea has to gain by giving up its nuclear weapons and rejoining the worldwide community - a subject he returned to on Twitter.
Since he was on the campaign trail, Trump has called on Seoul to pay much more for the upkeep of the USFK and has ordered USA negotiators to make sure that Seoul pays over 1.5 times more than its current annual share of W960.2 billion (US$1=W1,078).
The move appears to be based on the "freeze for freeze" proposal mooted by China, under which North Korea would stop nuclear and missile tests in exchange for a halt to the military exercises.
Mazarr said that the USA pledge to suspend U.S.
Michael Mazarr, a senior political scientist at the RAND Corporation in Virginia, also noted that Tuesday's agreement was "far less detailed" than "a whole series of denuclearization agreements that they had signed over the years".
Mr Trump and Mr Kim promised to work towards building "a lasting and stable peace" on the Korean peninsula and to repatriate remains of prisoners of war and those missing in action during the Korean War. But the apparently major concession to President Kim immediately startled South Korea.
Speaking briefly, hours after the historic talks in Singapore, Abe also said he was pleased that the U.S. leader had raised the emotive issue of Japanese abducted by Pyongyang.
Meeting with Kim Jong Un was an interesting and very positive experience.
Wednesday's report also said that the summit would help "in making a radical switchover in the most hostile DPRK-U.S. relations" that had "lingered for the longest period on the earth".
