That day has finally come.
The service removes all ads with users able to download videos onto devices plus videos can be played even when the app is not on a device's screen or the device is locked. That means more video and music is now at your fingertips.
It isn't launching alone either, as YouTube Premium is rolling out to 17 regions as well. It will also take advantage of YouTube's recommendations expertise. YouTube Music Premium, as that is called, is £10 a month, though you can get three months free for a limited time.
The new service includes access to music videos, albums, singles, remixes, live performances, covers and also "hard-to-find music" only from YouTube.
By using the kind of recommendation magic that YouTube is known for in the video world, YouTube Music will keep tabs on what you are listening to and then make recommendations based on your listening history as well as location. Chilling at the beach?
'For the first time, all the ways music moves you can be found in one place'. There is also a "Smart search" feature that will let users search for a song by writing, for example: "Halloween-theme song in the Nightmare Before Christmas", and it will try to produce accurate results.
Thousands of playlists include "The Pop Hotlist" for the biggest hits and "Distrito Latino" for Latin pop hits. "That space-themed Spice Girls song in the desert". We got you. You can also search by lyrics (even if they're wrong). For real. As will "Hold me closer, Tony Danza". There are only a handful of shows and only slightly more comedy videos available so don't sign up to it thinking you'll have access to the kinds of TV shows that you would find on Netflix.
Unlike Apple Music, YouTube Music has a free ad-supported option.
Another unique feature is Offline Mixtape, which automatically downloads songs users love for future playlists.
Music fans can get three months of YouTube Music Premium free here.
The best part about all of this?
To coincide with the launch of this new service a couple of new regular shows have been launched; F2 Finding Football, and The Sidemen Show.
However, YouTube will point to the already large number of views music videos on the site receive as proof there is still rich ground to pick up subscribers. If other music streaming services leave you wanting, you can now see if YouTube Music satisfies in a handful of regions around the world.
